Plumbing problems don't wait - neither do we!
Your main water line is the pipe that brings water from the street into your house. When it breaks, you don’t have water. Period. No showers, no toilets, no cooking, nothing. It’s buried underground between the curb and your foundation, and most homeowners never think about it until something goes wrong.
We replace and repair main water lines all around Holmen. Most of the time, we’re dealing with old galvanized pipes that have corroded through after 50 or 60 years in the ground. Sometimes tree roots grow into the line and crack it. Other times, the ground shifts and the pipe breaks at a joint.
Low water pressure throughout your whole house is the first clue. If every faucet is weak and it’s not a city pressure issue, your main line might be restricted with corrosion. Discolored water (brown or rusty) means the inside of that pipe is deteriorating.
Wet spots in your yard between the street and your house are a dead giveaway. If water’s pooling up there for no reason, your main line is leaking underground. You might also notice your water bill jumped way up even though you’re not using more water.
Replacing a main water line means digging a trench from the street to your house. We excavate carefully to avoid hitting other utilities such as gas lines, electric, phone cables. Then we pull out the old pipe and run new pipe, usually copper or PEX depending on local code and your preference.
The job takes a few days. Your water will be shut off while we work, but we can usually get you back up and running by the end of each day. Your yard will have a trench that we fill back in and compact properly.
